Maria Isabel Edlund
Maria (b. 1990) is a Danish cellist based in Aarhus and Berlin. She has studied at the Malmö Academy of Music with prof. Mats Rondin and prof. Torleif Thedéen and she is now in the soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music Aarhus with prof. Henrik Brendstup.
Maria is a curious and dedicated musician and she is always searching for new ways of expression. She likes to create new and different concert forms and has created own concert series and festivals in Aarhus.
Maria is a versatile musician and she is active in both Denmark and abroad in many different constellations; as a soloist performing with symphony orchestra, as guest musician in orchestras and as chamber musician in smaller ensembles.
Maria dedicates a lot of her time to contemporary music. This has lead to several premieres and numerous collaborations with composers from all over the world, both as a soloist and as a part of chamber music ensembles.
Maria has won several competitions and received many distinctions and big grants in the North. In 2018 she received Aenchen and Egil Harby Foundation Travel Grant.
Furthermore she is founder and member of the Berlin-based string quartet Taïga String Quartet. In 2019 she also joined the Aarhus-based baroque ensemble BaroqueAros.
